Write a clear title and introduction
- Title
- Required. Use the name guests will recognise, such as Friday Night Jazz. Keep ticket conditions and lengthy venue directions in the description rather than crowding the title.
- Sub Title
- Add a supporting line, such as Live trio, intimate room, great company. The website template determines where it appears.
- Short Description
- Write a standalone introduction within the 250-character limit shown by the counter. Explain what is happening and why someone should attend. Put the full programme, access information and detailed terms in Content.
Read your title and summary together as if they were the only information on a listing card or gig guide. Avoid repeating the title word for word in the summary.
Choose tags, type and categories
- Tags / Choose
- Use the chooser to select relevant tags from your website’s vocabulary. Reusing consistent tags helps your team organise content; their public use depends on the website.
- Type
- Select the broad event format. The editor offers Business, Class, Comedy, Dance, Education, Festival, Food, Kids, Literary, Market, Music, Sale, Screening, Social, Sports, Theatre and Visual Arts.
- Category
- A single category field retained in the editor for compatible website setups. Do not rely on this field alone to place an event in the current website’s category listings.
- Categories
- Open the Categories chooser and select each relevant category. The current Eventsity website uses this multiple-category selection for membership. Choose Music and Community, for example, only when both describe the event.
After publishing, open the relevant public category pages and confirm the event appears. If it does not, check Categories, publication state, event dates and the website selected in administration.
Separate the source listing from the ticket link
- Website Tix URL
- Stores the event’s external ticketing website address where an external booking route is configured. Use the full https:// address and test its destination. Native Eventsity tickets are configured in Tickets, Registrations or Bookings.
- Event Listing URL
- The source page describing the event. For an import, use the individual event page rather than an unrelated home page or search result. This is distinct from the event’s own File Name.
- Import Event from URL
- Marks the event for the configured import service to process using Event Listing URL. Saving is not an instant preview of an imported page. Processing depends on the import service and access to the source. Review the resulting dates, venue, links, description and image before publishing.
- External ID
- A reference used to match this event with another system. Keep an existing value when maintaining an imported event unless the team managing the integration instructs otherwise.
- Is Library
- An event-library flag for configured content workflows. It does not by itself publish the event, create recurrence or make a copy. Use it only as agreed for your website’s library setup.
Choose the feature image
- Feature Image
- The main image used on the event page and in event listings. Choose a clear photograph that still works when cropped to the card shape used by your website.
- Choose File
- Upload an image from your computer. Wait for the upload to complete and check the selected image before saving the event.
- Library
- Choose an existing asset so you can reuse approved artwork without uploading another copy.
- Clear
- Remove the current image selection from this field. Check the resulting fallback in preview; clearing a selection is different from deleting an asset from the library.
- External Feature Image URL
- Reference a remotely hosted image where supported by the website. Use a publicly accessible image address. If the host removes the file, changes permissions or blocks loading, the image can disappear.
For a venue gig, a warm photo of the performers or audience often communicates more than a poster full of small text. Keep essential times, prices and access information in readable page text. If both local and external image fields are populated, check which one your template displays.
Save and check the listing
- Save the event and resolve any required-field errors.
- Use Save & Preview and inspect both the event page and the relevant listing or category view.
- Confirm the title, summary and image work together on a narrow screen.
- Open the booking link and check the event, date and destination.
- After publishing, refresh the public event and category pages. If old details remain, compare the Published preview with Staged before editing again.
Keep going
- Build the event page with the content editor
- Set dates, doors, venues and recurring events
- Design the event page and its search appearance
